Fans have speculated that the use of blond on the album cover and blonde on the album listing is a reference to Frank’s bisexuality and the themes of duality between masculinity and femininity in his life; with blond being the masculine form, and blonde being the feminine. The word blonde itself holds two interpretations.
Blond (FKA Boys Don't Cry) arrived during the night via Apple Music. On the cover, the man we've been waiting for, hair a vivid shade of Ryan Lochte green and showering in a Pre-Raphaelite pose. In a year of unusual album rollouts, including Rihanna's hastily thrust out the door 8th record, Beyoncé's Olympian offering for her second visual album and Kanye's runway project turned international listening party album The Life of Pablo, Frank Ocean's release still stands out. When the album missed its promised release date(s), praying to the Internet didn't help, neither did the amount of memes and thinkpieces surrounding what the world thought would be Boys Don't Cry.

Blond:ish is a Canadian producer/DJ duo formed in 2008 by Anstascia D'Elene Corniere and Vivie-ann Bakos. As of 2019, Blond:ish is a solo act represented by Vive-ann Bakos. While attending the Winter Music Conference in 2007, Corniere and Bakos started promoting and DJing nights called Blond:ish at the Cherry Nightclub in Montreal. After a while, people started referring to the duo by that name. In 2010, the two moved to London seeking to expand their musical knowledge.
The album title is stylized Blond on the cover artwork, but appears as Blonde in Apple Music. In the long lead-up to the album’s reveal, it was known as Boys Don’t Cr. It features Nikes, as well as songs titled Ivy and White Ferrari. As some Boys Don’t Cry magazine-holders have noted, the tracklist for Blond listed in the magazine is different from the one that was released on Apple Music. This perhaps gives even more credence to his mysterious Tumblr post: I got two versions. The magazine tracklist does not include Nikes, for example.
