Unmasked (Kiss album). Unmasked is the eighth studio album by American hard rock band Kiss, released in 1980. The album features substantial songwriting contributions from Vini Poncia, who had previously been Ringo Starr's post-Beatles songwriting partner. The album marked the first time Kiss had used the contributions of outside songwriters to such a large extent, as all but the two Frehley contributions, "Talk to Me" and "Two Sides of the Coin", were written or co-written by someone outside the band. The band filmed a promotional video for "Shandi" with Criss.

Label: Casablanca ‎– 800 041-2. P 1980 Phonogram International . The Netherlands C 1980 Aucoin Management, INC. by agreement with Kiss, a partnership. Printed in West Germany. First generation german CD released 1983.

Overall, then, Unmasked is a huge progression in comparison to the previous album. In the overall scheme of KISS albums, it comes in firmly behind Destroyer and Dressed To Kill, but miles above Dynasty or Hotter Than Hell and slightly above Love Gun or Rock And Roll Over. It is about on a par with the debut, although with a bigger recurrence of weakish songs.

Although Unmasked was certified gold shortly after its release in the . it quickly fell off the charts. Deciding factors included the band's failure to mount a stateside tour, the fact that the majority of the compositions on Unmasked were easily forgettable, and longtime fans' weariness with Kiss' attempts to branch out into other musical styles. Vini Poncia was on board as producer again, and again he replaces the raw, heavy rock of earlier Kiss releases with pop gloss.

First edition with original KISS-logo on the cover which was altered in August 1980 because it had resembled the sigel-runes used for the logo of the Nazi-German 'Schutzstaffel' (SS) .
Copies issued after this alteration featured a neutralized variant of the logo as shown in Unmasked.

Some copies were issued with a hype sticker advertising the German September 1980 tour.
Track order is correct on the center labels, but appears shuffled on the sleeve.
