In 1964, Motown's first number 1 in Britain was "Baby Love" by the Supremes, released on EMI's Stateside label. Where Did Our Love Go" by the Supremes, and "My Guy" by Mary Wells were amongst other big hits in the same year, also on Stateside. By 1964, Motown had accumulated enough British hits for EMI to release a greatest hits album, A Collection of Tamla Motown Big Hits. Over the next few years, several more compilations were released, including six in the series 16 Original Big Hits. In 1967, the label issued the first of the Motown Chartbusters series. In the same year, Volume 3 spent six weeks at the No. 2 position, eventually reaching No. 1. In 1971 Volume 5 went to No. 2 and, in 1973, Volume 8 went to No. .The series was the most successful set of compilation albums in terms of sales until the release of the Now That's What I Call Music series began in the mid-1980s.

Exclusively for Prime members. Sample this album Artist - Artist (Sample). 30. Intro - Motown Intro - Motown by Various artists. Songs were dynamically 'flat,' with little to no fidelity. As songs progressed from mid to late Motown, fidelity improved but think it had more to do with generally improving technology, and playback. It's a darn shame UTV Records did such a slipshod job, just to grab a fast buck.

Unnecessary for soul fans much less collectors, Motown 1 s works best for its intended audience - those with no prior experience who wish to understand why the Motown conglomeration of singers, songwriters, musicians, and executives comprised the premier pop music organization of all time.

1 Motown Album the (2000). Various Artists - Motown Chartbusters, Vol. 4 (1998). I do not dislike anything about this item at all. I have owned this album on vinyl LP (twice) and tape cassette - all of which I wore out. I have now bought my second CD version too. During the mid-Sixties and later this series of albums - namely the first two - were always being bought in record shops.

Perhaps no other act represents the Motown sound better than the Supremes. From their time as teenagers hanging around Hitsville begging and cajoling anyone to give them a chance or singing backup when needed, the Supremes became one of the best pop acts of all time. Where Did Our Love Go (1964), their second album, is a good document of their ambitious climb to stardom as it is a hodge-podge of recordings made between 1962-’64. Working hard at recording and being a regular opening act for various Motown revues, the Monitors weren’t as successful as Motown would’ve wanted. To supplement their incomes they took other jobs within the label, such as Street being part of the Quality Control team. It marks the first album released after the departure of popular lead singer David Ruffin, who was replaced by Dennis Edwards.
