A stellar performance and unique hybrid that others have attempted but with nowhere near the harmonic wonders that Zeitlin creates here.
Pianist Denny Zeitlin has the distinction-among many others-of having written one of the loveliest of love songs: "Love Theme From Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. The tune can be heard in its unadorned beauty on Zeitlin's Precipice (Sunnyside Records, 2010), the recording of an extraordinarily beautiful and adventurous solo concert. His Expansion (Arch Records, 1973) and Syzygy (Arch Records, 1977) had prepared the pianist for the electronics work. piano trio and solo work, acoustic style, offering up the Precipice, Labyrinth (Sunnyside Records, (2011), and Wherever You Are: Midnight Moods for Solo Piano (Sunnyside Records, 2012), for a marvelous recent track record-totally acoustic-that makes Both/And, which is subtitled Solo Electro-Acoustic Adventures, such a surprise.

Denny Zeitlin knew this already, he's been screwing around with ulated instruments for years. But his album Both/And: Solo Electro-Acoustic Adventures is truly ambitious - not only does it sound nothing like his last album, but it sounds like no other album entirely.
Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1 is a live album by American singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, released in 2005 (see 2005 in music). It reached number 4 on the Top Independent Albums chart and number 8 on the Top Internet Albums chart. Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1 was Browne's first live release since 1977's landmark Running on Empty. The performances were recorded at various locations in the United States and Europe during Browne's 2004 solo acoustic tour
Zeitlin did just that in 2013. With an upgrade of equipment, he recorded his solo electro/acoustic recording titled Both/And. Then in a nod to minimal collaboration, Zeitlin rejoined with t George Marsh, an alumnus of his old trio days, and the two released Riding the Moment, a duo electro/acoustic recording in 2015. Zeitlin conjures a treasure trove of exotic sounds; sounds that elicit haunting Gregorian chant-like voices, alien harpsichords, robotic oscillations, tin-can vibraphones, space-born calliopes, Pan flutes, ogre-like bass lines, majestic pipe organs and muted plectral sounds.

In the 1960s and ‘70s, jazz keyboardist Denny Zeitlin found himself enamored with the freedom of working with electronics on his music, after having composed and performed acoustically for so long. A veteran of superlative, figurative jazz music, Zeitlin found an electronic kindred in drummer George Marsh, who had become a fan of the pianist’s recordings for Columbia at the time.
