When the Chemical Brothers are at full steam, there is no way of stopping their ingenious music. They have moments when the world is suddenly at their finger tips, but other moments when the Brothers haven't got a clue where to begin, and are eventually lost in their own faults. However, you can't judge a book by its cover, and most certainly can't judge it by its style of execution either. Come With Us" hits the high note with the opening track of the same name, and kicks off a swift violin intro that eventually turns into a buzzing electronic wheel . While some tracks (Star Guitar, Come With Us, It Began In Afrika) stand out from the album, its not enough to save the other songs from failing. Then to conclude, The Chemical Brothers yet again deliver another album with "Hey, wasn't that song on a TV ad"" moments fused with some old-house big beat music.

The track’s weakness, however, lies in its all-too-prominent spliced-up lyrical slogans. The Chemical Brothers fare better dabbling in off-kilter psychedelic folk like The State We’re In, which features folktronica songstress Beth Orton. Similarly, the metrophonic Hoops is at once earthy and otherworldly, mixing electro beats with acoustic guitar scales, while the potent My Elastic Eye could be a remix of a horror film score by The Goblins.
It Began In Afrika was a top 10 smash single last year for The Chemical Brothers, back after an absence that seems longer than the year it was. Star Guitar, a summery piece favourably comparing with Basement Jaxx‘s Jus 1 Kiss, released shortly before this their fourth album, looks set to chalk up more success for Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons. The pair met at Manchester University where they both studied medieval history, so the irony is not lost that Come With Us looks to the future as much as their chosen subject at university looked to the past
With album number four the Chemical Brothers will surely persuade the remaining dozen or so people in the UK that don't like them that they are really rather good. Prior to the release of this album we were teased as a dozen acetates of the acid tribal monster "It Began In Afrika" were leaked to the key players. Come With Us delivers a further nine new tracks which elevate the Chemical's sound to a new vertex. The crunchy, slap bass and breakbeat swing of "Galaxy Bounce" motors out of "Afrika" and drifts in to the mighty, phased and diffused "Star Guitar". Combining 'that beat' from "Planet Rock" and a sweet, Balearic hook "Hoops" does much to further the electro renaissance that seems to be rearing its retro, body popping head at the moment.
