Michael Gordon Oldfield (born 15 May 1953) is an English t and composer. His work blends progressive rock with world, folk, classical, electronic, ambient, and new-age music. His biggest commercial success is the 1973 album Tubular Bells – which launched Virgin Records and became a hit in America after its opening was used as the theme for the film The Exorcist. He recorded the 1983 hit single "Moonlight Shadow" and a rendition of the Christmas piece "In Dulci Jubilo".

Retreating from his newfound celebrity, OLDFIELD recorded several more critically acclaimed albums, similar in scope and approach but constantly developing new instrumental and compositional skills. In 1979 his single "Guilty" showed that shorter vocal-based pieces and more recent music styles were beginning to creep into his work; he also returned to touring in 1979 after undergoing therapy to combat his reclusive, solitary tendencies.

With that said, I have never seen him live and I was really wanting to go see a lot of newer people I like live. We were newcomers and we even hung out with some veterans that have seen him hundreds of times. Mike Oldfield played beautifully, and my ears loved every second of it, I was happy to see that I was happy, truly happy with music, for once in my life. I had no complaints, his voice was perfect, the tone and pitch were great, and the entire show was good.
Mike Oldfield kept a colourful graphic chart of progress with crayons but eventually tracks would become accidentally erased due to the oxide shedding from its backing and this would leave the tape virtually useless but as Mike explained at the time, this enabled him to refine his musical ideas further when recording the album again leading to a far superior performance.
