Complete your Bedřich Smetana, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra collection. Z Český Luhův A Hájů (From Bohemias Woods And Fields).

While it is often presented as a single work in six movements and – with the exception of Vltava – is almost always recorded that way, the six pieces were conceived as individual works

Only 5 left in stock (more on the way).

The Bartered Bride (Czech: Prodaná nevěsta, The Sold Bride) is a comic opera in three acts by the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, to a libretto by Karel Sabina. The work is generally regarded as a major contribution towards the development of Czech music. It was composed during the period 1863 to 1866, and first performed at the Provisional Theatre, Prague, on 30 May 1866 in a two-act format with spoken dialogue.

Both sets include Smetana's massive cycle of symphonic poems, Má Vlast; the symphonic poems that fall outside the cycle, Wallenstein's Camp, Hàkon Jarl, and Richard III; and his lone Symphony in E major, Op.

The full cycle of six tone poems, entitled Má Vlast (My Country) was completed on March 9, 1879. The parts were performed individually at first. The premiere of The Moldau took place on April 4, 1875. Adolf Cech led the first performance of the complete cycle of six tone poems on November 5, 1882, in Prague. The score calls for two flutes and piccolo, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, cymbals, triangle, bass drum, harp, and strings (cellos being divided into two sections).
