It is the tenth and last studio album of the band. A special four-channel quadraphonic version of the album was advertised but not released. The album features the summer/fall 1974 lineup of the Mothers of Invention, with George Duke, Chester Thompson, Ruth Underwood, Tom Fowler and Napoleon Murphy Brock.
Inspired by rave culture and a 1977 Free Jazz album ‘Drums, Voices, Knispel Nie’ by German Jazz percussionist Frank Köllges. Knispel Nie is a dog that can be heard reacting to Köllges’ performance. The work explores the idea of ‘now’ - the euphoric feeling one can experience at a rave, in a club, at a gig or just listening to music. Placing a dog (who lacks the negative programming and the self-conscious inhibitions of humans) in an environment like this encapsulates the joyous feeling of being free and present in the moment – not a care in the world.
In 1976 they recorded their fiirst album simply entitled „Third Eye. For this second album named „Connexion and released the following year, Ali Haurand brought the Jamaican Jazzman Wilton Gaynair (1927-1995) into the band. Connexion mainly contains original material by Wilton Gaynair and stands out as a landmark in the fields of European progressive jazz from the 1970s. In the rhythm department, they are ably supported by the voices of Frank Köllges, Ali Haurand and Steve Boston, tastefully performing their own limited solo chores. It seems that each note of Haurand& full-toned bass is carefully cultivated in pitch and timbre.
