After quickly recording most of the basic tracks for the album on a laptop at home, Minotaur Shock took advantage of a proper studio for the first time to fill in the gaps. Live drum tracking, piano, xylophone and a bit of bass guitar were added, giving the finished recordings a propulsive quality.

2002 saw the release of the Rockpoolin' EP, which introduced a more melodic take on the Minotaur Shock sound, the 2003 compilation Rinse collected Edwards' vinyl-only EPs onto CD. Minotaur Shock moved to 4AD for 2005's Vigo Bay EP and Maritime full-length, both of which were influenced by Edwards' love of the seaside and sleek '80s pop like Steely Dan and Hall & Oates

Minotaur Shock is the stage name of David Edwards, a Bristol-based electronica musician. His 2005 album Maritime was his first album released through 4AD Records, having previously released work via Manchester based Melodic. Edwards returned to Melodic for the release of his 2012 album, Orchard. He also plays drums in Bronze Age Fox, a band from the Hanham area of Bristol. Since 2010, he has also released music under the stage name Principal Participant. Chiff-Chaffs and Willow Warblers (2001).
