Reports of Loom’s live performances mark them as strutting, brawling troublemakers. Listening to Lice and hearing a band play with such audible, keen ferocity you can sense their spirited youthful antagonism and the sound of a band with a knife between their teeth and a point they’re busting to prove. Though Tarik Badwan will surely baulk at the endless comparisons and the use of his brother as a benchmark, something special obviously runs in the Badwan blood
The album follows Loom’s previous two cassette releases, one of which was a six-track covers EP of The Jesus Lizard, Bad Brains, Pixies, GG Allin, Misfits, and Warsaw. The band – Matt Marsh, Joshua Fitzgerald and frontman Tarik Badwan (brother of Horrors frontman Faris Badwan) – recorded half of the hotly anticipated album themselves and the other half with John Coxon at the legendary Ray Davies’ Konk studios. Did you know there are over 3,000 species of louse? Depending on type, the wingless insects either suck or chew on blood, skin and pus to get their fill. Obstinate, gross and direct, you’ve got to admire them. Loom’s blistering new EP is called ‘Lice’ and it’ll suck the blood from your brain and command your total attention. The five tracks include new single ‘Lice’, versions of ‘I Get A Taste’, ‘Acid King City’, ‘Salt’ and a cover of early 90s noise band The Jesus Lizard’s pleasingly disorientating ‘Seasick’
