Although Black Sabbath’s members have scoffed at the metal tag over the years, their lumbering, overdriven guitar, acrobatic drumming and forceful vocals, all originally intended to be rock’s equivalent to a horror movie, have been copied time and again, decade after decade. Judas Priest dressed it in denim and leather. The San Francisco band blew up with their second album Sunbather, the 2013 breakthrough that defined their expansive style of black metal. In fiercely emotional tracks like Dream House and The Pecan Tree, they weave in elements of post-punk indie noise bands like Mogwai, along with shoegaze elders like My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive.

Relapse, 1998) Napalm Death's own choice as heirs to their grindcore throne, Swedish speed freaks Nasum put the petal to the metal with straight-ahead hardcore infused riffs and trenchant sociopolitical lyrics. Says Napalm vocalist Barney Greenway of the band's debut, Inhale/Exhale, "it fucking blew me out of my chair. Earache, 1989) While Napalm Death sired grindcore, . s Terrorizer were not far behind. Their one and only album combined peace-punk diatribes with blistering rd. As Napalm, many of the group's members went on to work with other seminal bands, including Morbid Angel and Napalm themselves. Pig Destroyer - Terrifyer. Relapse, 2004) Mad howler . Hayes' stream-of-psychosis lyrics matched with the fret-board gymnastics of guitarist Scott Hull (Agoraphobic, Nosebleed, ex-Anal Cunt) make this Virginia trio an unparalleled mix of precision and insanity.

Crvsade: Zero is also a slower-moving album than its predecessors, with a good chunk of its songs being mid-tempo grinders, as they slowly lumber about and flatten everything surrounding them. This time, Crvsade: Zero has quite a few songs that feel built around shout choruses, three-to-four-word phrases chanted over and over until they bore into your head whether you want them to or not. It feels like part of Crvsade: Zero was written as a disc to be played live, because quite a few of these songs seem tailor-made for crowd interaction. On Crvsade: Zero it feels like Hate are bathed in black and cloaked in the night. There’s no ritual to be found here, just destruction in its purest form. Crvsade:Zero will be released on February 2nd in the UK and February 10 in North America on Napalm Records.

I was friends with the three of them and got invited to the Side A recording session at Rich Bitch Studios, alongside Dig and a couple of the guys from Head of David. I remember telling Justin that his second guitar track was out of tune-it was an overnight recording session and Nik and Mick got into an argument
