The Latvian Radio Choir (Latvijas Radio koris) is the professional chamber choir of Latvian Radio which was founded in 1940 by the Latvian conductor Teodors Kalnins. Following the musical direction by Edgars Račevskis (1963–1986) and Juris Kļaviņš (1987 – 1992). The choir has had two conductors ever since 1992 - musical director and principal conductor. The choir is currently of 24 singers under the leadership of Sigvards Kļava and Kaspars Putniņš.

Thanks to previous successful concerts in 2017, the choir continues its cooperation with Artist Management M. Hirasa who have organised the tour this time around, as well. The Latvian Radio choir will perform in four cities - Tokyo, Yokohama, Tsu and Matsumoto. 28 May at 01:34 ·. MUZIKĀLĀS PIETURVIETAS VASARA 2019

Marahi (1999) is described by Harvey as ‘a hymn of adoration to the Divine Feminine’-a theme explored in several pieces, particularly the two large-scale Proms commissions Madonna of Winter and Spring (1986) and Mothers Shall Not Cry (2000). The title exhibits Harvey’s fondness for wordplay: ‘Marahi’ is a portmanteau word made up from the names of the two divinities the piece celebrates, the Virgin Mary and the Buddhist goddess Varahi  . Harvey: The Angels, Ashes Dance Back & other choral works. Latvian Radio Choir, James Wood (conductor).
