Queen is the self-titled debut studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 13 July 1973 by EMI Records in the UK and by Elektra Records in the US. It was recorded at Trident Studios and De Lane Lea Music Centre, London, with production by Roy Thomas Baker, John Anthony and the band members themselves. The album was influenced by heavy metal and progressive rock. The lyrics are based on a variety of topics, including folklore ("My Fairy King") and religion ("Jesus").

British rock band Queen consisted of vocalist Freddie Mercury (d. 1991), guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor, and bassist John Deacon (r. 1997). Founded in 1970, Queen released their self-titled debut album in 1973. Despite not being an immediate success, Queen gained popularity in Britain with their second album Queen II in 1974

The album was primarily recorded in the same studio where the Sex Pistols were finishing Never Mind the Bollocks, leading to some memorable encounters between the two bands. Most of News of the World‘s tracks were cut at London’s Wessex Studios, an arrangement which put the band on a collision course with British punks the Sex Pistols, who were working in the same studio complex on their landmark debut album. We used to bump into them in the corridors, guitarist Brian May recalled to Queen biographer Mark Blake. I had a few conversations with John Lydon, who was always very respectful  . Despite their reputation for studio excess, Queen recorded and mixed News of the World in a relatively short period of time, taking only 10 weeks to complete the LP. (A Day at the Races had taken five months.

Prior to recording the album that would become The Game, Queen - May, singer Freddie Mercury, drummer Roger Taylor, and bassist John Deacon - grew into a major rock act since its formation in 1970. With each new album showcasing its brand of progressive and glitter rock, the band attracted audiences in both the . More hit albums (1976's A Day at the Races and 1977's News of the World) and singles ( Somebody to Love, We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions ) followed. In 1978, Queen released the very brash-sounding Jazz album, an occasion marked by two memorable events. As part of the promotion for the album’s double A-single, Bicycle Race/Fat Bottomed Girs, Queen mounted an event at Wembley Stadium that featured a bevy of nude female models riding bikes.
